LinkedIn Application Count
Don’t Let the Applicant Count Hold You Back...Scrolling through LinkedIn® job postings and seeing “100+ applicants” can be intimidating. But that number does not necessarily mean what it implies - and it certainly should not discourage you from applying.
The LinkedIn® "applicant count" can include individuals who have not tailored their applications, do not meet the core qualifications, are not based in the state or country, are the company’s competition/recruiters mapping out the market/searching for intel or are simply testing the waters.
It is not a reflection of how competitive the role is; it is often an inflated figure of clicks, incomplete submissions or even people exploring without genuine intent.
Focus on your value instead of an irrelevant number:
✅ Quality > Quantity Recruiters prioritise candidates who align with the role, not just those who apply quickly. A strong, personalised application can make you stand out in any pool.
✅ You’re Competing with the Job, Not the Number. Your focus should be on matching your skills, experience and relevant keywords to the job description - not on how many others have clicked "Apply."
✅ Opportunities Are About Fit, Not FiguresCompanies want the right person for the role – hiring the wrong person is a costly mistake. A thoughtful, well-matched candidate is always more valuable.
✅ Your Application May Open Other DoorsKeep in mind that once you apply for a position on LinkedIn®, your details should be stored on that company’s database. If your experience etc has relevance for the organisation, the recruitment specialist may find your profile is a fit for another active position and reach out to discuss.
Do not let a number on a screen shake your confidence.
The LinkedIn® applicant count should not affect your worth or chances. Your experience, skills and effort matter far more. Tailor your application and show why you are the best fit.
